‘Paris Bronze Precursor to Golden Era of Hockey’: CM Mohan Charan Majhi

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi honored the Indian hockey team on Wednesday for their bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics, stating that this achievement marks the beginning of a golden era for hockey in India. During a felicitation ceremony at Kalinga Stadium, he expressed pride in Odisha’s significant role in the team’s revival and announced continued support from the state government for the upcoming Los Angeles Olympics and other international tournaments.

Majhi pledged comprehensive assistance and incentives to the team, emphasizing the importance of hockey as a source of inspiration and a foundation for nation-building. He highlighted that the team’s success teaches resilience and unity in overcoming challenges. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting sports at the grassroots level, aiming to develop champions from remote areas by enhancing sports infrastructure across the state.

As part of the celebration, Majhi awarded Rs 5 lakh to each player, with special prizes of Rs 4 crore for Amit Rohidas and Rs 50 lakh for goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. The festivities included a vibrant roadshow from Biju Patnaik International Airport to the stadium, attended by thousands, underscoring the Odisha government's pivotal role in advancing sports nationally and internationally.
