Hockey India starts thinking about Los Angeles Olympics 2028

Hockey India has begun planning for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, following the Indian men's hockey team's bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics. President Dilip Tirkey emphasized the need to prepare for the future, considering the age of current players and the upcoming Asian Games, which serve as a qualifying event for the Olympics.

To promote young talent, Hockey India plans to revive the Hockey India League (HIL), which will include a women's competition. This move aims to provide a platform for young players and domestic coaches to gain experience and develop their skills. However, the federation faces challenges in making HIL successful in the long term, including securing corporate support and ensuring franchise participation.

The introduction of junior and sub-junior inter-zonal championships is another initiative to provide youngsters with more competitive exposure. Tirkey believes that increased exposure will sharpen the skills of under-17 and under-19 players, preparing them for future international events. With a focus on development and planning, Hockey India is taking proactive steps to ensure the team's success in the 2028 Olympics and beyond. By reviving HIL and introducing new championships, the federation aims to create a strong foundation for Indian hockey.
