Haryana polls: Alliance talks on; AAP seeks 10 seats, Congress offers 7
The third round of negotiations is expected to occur today or tomorrow as both parties aim to finalize their seat-sharing agreement.
Reports indicate that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during a meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) on Monday, expressed interest in the possibility of an alliance with AAP for the assembly polls in Haryana.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh welcomed the reports of Gandhi’s interest in the alliance, stating that defeating the BJP is a priority for opposition parties. However, Congress leaders in Haryana have been less optimistic. Senior leader Kumari Selja has ruled out the possibility of an alliance, asserting that the party is strong enough to contest the elections independently.
Singh said that any decision regarding the alliance would be made with the approval of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, who remains incarcerated. The Supreme Court granted interim bail to Kejriwal in money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam on 12 July 2024. However, he remains in Tihar Jail as he was also arrested by CBI in corruption case related to the alleged liquor policy scam.
