Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Heavy rains continue to batter Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, causing widespread destruction and claiming 35 lives. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a "yellow alert" for four districts in Telangana and an orange alert for NTR and Krishna districts in Andhra Pradesh.
In Andhra Pradesh, schools and colleges in the NTR district have been closed due to heavy rainfall. The Indian Air Force has deployed helicopters to distribute relief supplies and airlift stranded people. Over 44,000 people have been accommodated in relief camps.
Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has allocated ₹30 lakh for relief efforts, while Telangana government employees have contributed ₹130 crore. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced ₹5 lakh ex-gratia payment to families of flood victims.
Rescue and rehabilitation efforts are ongoing, with five helicopters distributing food and airlifting people. The situation remains grim, with residents struggling to meet their daily needs. The IMD has warned of continued heavy rain until September 7.
