SC Collegium recommends Calcutta HC judge Joymalya Bagchi's elevation to Supreme Court

The Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday (March 6, 2025) recommended a Calcutta High Court judge, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, for appointment to the top court.

If the proposal is accepted by the government, Justice Bagchi would be in line to become the Chief Justice of India in May 2031, following the retirement of Justice K.V. Viswanathan.
