Odisha to become a hub for textile & apparel manufacturing: CM
The state government is committed to make Odisha a hub for textile and apparel manufacturing in India, said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today.
The Chief Minister announced this while inaugurating a mega apparel manufacturing unit of Page Industries at Ramdaspur in Cuttack district.
The apparel manufacturing unit, established with an investment of Rs 750 crore, is expected to generate around 5,850 employment opportunities.
Majhi also laid foundation stone for another unit of Page Industries at Bhuinpur in Khurda district. The unit will come up with around Rs 250 crore investment and create 3,500 jobs.
esides, the Chief Minister laid stone for a textile plant of MAS India Clothing Pvt Limited at Bhuinpur.
“Several textile and apparel manufacturing units are being set up in several districts in Odisha, including Khurda, Cuttack and Ganjam. The state government had received investment intents worth around Rs 7,800 crore in the Odisha Textile Summit in July last year,” stated the Chief Minister.
The textile and apparel sector is a labour intensive sector and it can also play a major role in creating employment opportunities for women, he added.
“The state government is making sincere efforts to make Odisha as a major textile hub of the Eastern India. Odisha would become the ‘Surat’ or ‘Tiruppur’ of the Eastern India. The government has set up several textile parks in the state. These parks have the required infrastructure including land, power supply, water supply and proper communication,” said the Chief Minister.
