Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday (April 15, 2026) that once the BJP assumes power in West Bengal, it will prioritise resolving the Gorkha issue in Darjeeling and withdraw all cases registered against community leaders and workers for violent agitations in the past. He who was unable to reach the upper reaches of Lebong in the Darjeeling hills on account of unfavourable weather conditions, and addressed the gathering through a recorded video message.

Amid high-octave election campaigning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in a roadshow in Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday (April 15). The event is likely to be attended by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran and other party leaders including K. Annamalai.

With just a week to go for the high-stakes polls in Tamil Nadu, DMK president and Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Tuesday (April 14, 2026) cautioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi “not to play with fire”, referring to the proposed delimitation issue. He also accused the BJP of attempting to gain a foothold in the State by using the AIADMK as a “mask” and promoting the idea of a “double engine” government.

The two-phase Assembly polls in West Bengal will take place on April 23 and April 29. Polling across 234 seats in Tamil Nadu is scheduled to be held in a single phase on April 23. The counting of votes will be on May 4.
