KL Rahul Meets LSG Owner Sanjiv Goenka, Retention Talks On Cards

Sports

Kolkata, August 27, 2024: In a surprise move, Indian cricketer KL Rahul met with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka on Monday, sparking speculation about his retention with the franchise. The meeting, which lasted for an hour, discussed Rahul's potential retention and player combination for the next season.

According to sources, Rahul expressed his desire to be retained by LSG, but the franchise has not committed to anything yet, awaiting the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) retention policy.

This development comes after a public spat between Goenka and Rahul earlier this year, which sparked speculation about their association ending. However, it seems like they're putting the past behind them to focus on winning the IPL trophy.

Rahul has faced criticism for his batting approach, scoring 520 runs in 14 matches with a strike rate of 136.12, lower than his peers. Meanwhile, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan might join LSG as a mentor and bowling coach, working alongside head coach Justin Langer and others.

The retention announcement for IPL 2025 is expected soon, and LSG's decision on Rahul's retention will be closely watched. With this meeting, it seems like Rahul and Goenka are working towards a resolution, but only time will tell if they'll continue their association.
