Iran launched a new wave of missile attacks on Israel early Monday (June 16, 2025), triggering air raid sirens across the country as emergency services reported projectiles striking and shrapnel falling in Israel’s north and center, wounding at least 91 people. Powerful explosions, likely from Israel’s defence systems intercepting Iranian missiles, rocked Tel Aviv shortly before dawn, ushering in a fourth day of open warfare between the regional foes.

Israel’s military meanwhile said it struck command centres in Tehran belonging to Iran’s Quds Force, the foreign operations arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that Tehran’s residents would “pay the price” for Iranian strikes on Israeli civilians, after overnight missile attacks killed several.

Meanwhile, Group of Seven leaders including US President Donald Trump prepared to hold talks in the Canadian Rockies, tackling issues including whether they can find common ground on an escalating conflict between Iran and Israel. Canada is now sounding out countries about making a joint call on Israel and Iran, diplomats said. The statement could call for de-escalation or could simply back Israel, saying that it has a “right to defend itself” due to Iran’s contested nuclear work.

In view of escalating missile strikes, the Embassy of India Tehran in coordination with local Iranian authorities started relocating Indian students in Iran to safer places. According to sources, buses have started relocating students from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad University Tehran Medical Sciences, Iran University of Medical Sciences (Tehran).
