Supreme Court asks if NHAI ought to compensate commuters for fuel, patience in 12-hour traffic snarl in Kerala

The Supreme Court on Monday (August 18, 2025) asked whether the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) ought to pay commuters for their patience and loss of fuel while waiting 12 hours at a traffic snarl at a stretch on National Highway 544 in Kerala during the weekend.

 

Appearing before a three-judge Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai, Vinod Chandran and N.V. Anjaria, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the NHAI, said the block had been caused by an overturned truck.
